Letter from the Secretary General

"In all circumstances in the world - even the most difficult circumstances - we need to push for dialogue."

Antonio Guterres
9th Secretary-General of the United Nations

Dear Delegates,

It is with great pride and honor that I invite you to the eighth Bangalore Junior Model United Nations which will be held at Oakridge International School, Bangalore on the 13th and 14th of October, 2023.

I began my MUN journey the same way as all of you: at this very Bangalore JMUN five years ago. Since then, I've honed my debate skills, become a better public speaker, learned more about the world of diplomacy, and had the privilege of serving as an executive board member last year. But most importantly, the JMUN became an experience I will never forget. I will never forget the enticing press conferences, late-night research, and enthralling debate. I hope that this year's JMUN will give you the same phenomenal experiences that it gave me.

The world we live in today is dynamic, spurring up new challenges every day. Yet as these challenges prevail, they live in shadows of ignorance and neglect. As you engage in fruitful debate about territoriality, nuclear proliferation, income inequality, press journalism, and global health threats, I sincerely hope that you not only take away a newfound awareness of the world but also an exhilarating experience and a passion for debate.

This year's JMUN features a range of committees: UNSC, DISEC, ECOSOC, HRC and WHO, tailored for both the newest MUNers and the most experienced ones. The agendas have been curated to facilitate vibrant debate about meaningful global issues, leaving room for a creative approach that only you as delegates can bring to the table. Every single delegate, experienced or not, is encouraged to take their place on the global stage to contribute towards inventive solutions to the challenges posed by today's world.

With this, I welcome each one of you to the compelling conference that lies before you. If you have any queries, feel free to write to us at bangalorejmun@oakridge.in.

I cannot wait to be part of this new milestone in your MUN journey!

Yours,
Kashvi Srinivasan
Secretary-General, Bangalore JMUN 2023

Letter from the Director Generals

"The one common undertaking and universal instrument of the great majority of the human race is the United Nations. A patient constructive, long-term use of its potentialities can bring a real and secure peace to this world."

Trygve Lie
1st Secretary-General of the United Nations

Dear Delegates,

It is with the utmost excitement that we welcome you to the 8th iteration of the Junior Model United Nations at Oakridge, Bangalore on the 13th and 14th of October, 2023.

With its initial institutionalization, the United Nations has served as a beacon of hope, trust and progress among the international community. We, your director generals, can only ever hope to replicate a semblance of its significance through this Junior Model United Nations Conference.

Both of us have started our MUN-ing journeys with the Oakridge JMUN, leading us to build strong, successful careers as seasoned debaters. I, Vivaan Sheth, have attended over 13 MUN conferences around Bangalore, with placements in various prestigious conferences such as CJCMUN, DMUN, AJMUN and our very own, Oakridge JMUN.

I, Advait M.V, have taken part in close to a dozen MUN conferences, winning the likes of Outstanding and Best Delegate across a range of committees in Deens MUN and Oakridge JMUN.

The skill of debate and discourse is the most archetypal element of successful diplomacy and this is something that you will develop through experience in the Bangalore MUN circuit. JMUN offers you a unique opportunity to gain an initial, yet comprehensive understanding of what being a delegate offers you. We have curated a range of 5 committees that take into consideration the vast diversity in your individual experiences with agendas, specifically crafted to feed your enthusiasm for productive debate and policy construction.

We encourage you to speak freely (mindful of your foreign policies of course) and put forward your nation’s valued perspective on each of these exquisitely complex and exciting agendas. With this, we invite each and every one of you to the alluring global stage that lies before you.

Yours,
Advait M.V & Vivaan Sheth
