Letter from the Secretary General

Dear Delegates,

It is my great honour and privilege to invite you to the seventh iteration of the Bangalore Junior Model United Nations Conference at Oakridge International School on the 28th and 29th of October, 2022.

I am Jia Misra and I have been a passionate MUNner for the past three years. Across my MUN career, I have acquired experiences as a delegate and as part of the Executive Board. These experiences strengthened my relish for global politics, negotiation and advocacy. While just like you, I too was once a frightened delegate incredibly intimidated by MUN procedures, I was able to grow into my self confidence and define my style. With the unending support of my mentors, I can confidently say that I am now prepared to serve as your Secretary General, and I couldn’t be more exhilarated to do so.

Regardless of the lockdown compelling us to conduct an online conference for our delegates in these past two years, we were successfully able to deliver a meaningful conference and allow delegates to continue to practice their critical thinking, public speaking and problem solving skills. However, for the first time in two years, we host our very first on-campus conference. Similar to JMUN 2021, we will continue to maintain our standards of safety and diplomacy, while simultaneously giving each and everyone of you the opportunity to bask under the spotlight. JMUN 2022, although, is going to be a particularly memorable event as delegates will be able to comprehensively experience a formal Junior Model United Nations conference. This year’s JMUN features two beginner committees (WHO and HRC), two intermediate committees (ECOSOC and DISEC) and an advanced committee (UNSC), offering a range of predicaments.

While the modern world continues to grapple with crises and suffering of unaccounted magnitude, advocating for global issues as a delegate brings you one step closer to becoming a responsible, intentionally minded citizen. Therefore, I strongly encourage anyone who is keen, whether a novice or seasoned delegate, to apply for this iteration of Bangalore JMUN 2022. Not only will you enhance your MUN skills, but you will also be able to experience a conventional JMUN, allowing you to ajar your wings and embrace the centre stage.

The committee agendas have been designed such that it asks for you to improvise, adapt and critically think. Nevertheless, they encourage fruitful discussions and we hope that you delegates take advantage of this opportunity to interact and develop articulate resolutions. On behalf of the Secretariat and the EB members, I hope that this 7th edition of Bangalore JMUN at Oakridge International School will be a phenomenal experience and milestone in your MUN journey. If you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at bangalorejmun@oakridge.in.

I cannot wait to be part of this new chapter in your MUN book.

Yours,
Jia Misra
Secretary-General, Bangalore JMUN 2022

Letter from the Director Generals

Dear Delegates,

We take it with great gratitude and appreciation that we can serve everyone participating in JMUN 2022, hosted at Oakridge International School Bangalore. Your director generals for the seventh edition of this model united nations are Aagney Gorthi and Siddharth Satish.

I am Siddharth Satish, and I started my MUN journey in the sixth grade by participating in the JMUN itself a few years ago. That initial step toward this hobby that I have cultivated has led me to attend 15 MUNs as a delegate, helping me grow and further develop my strengths and diminish my weaknesses with every event. MUNs have helped me be more self-aware about the society that I live in, helped me learn more about how to be a leader in critical situations, and, more importantly, It has let me understand how to get my point across in a room of people. MUNs have not only shaped my academic life into a better state but have also put me on the right path to becoming a better version of myself.

I am Aagney Gorthi, much like Siddharth, I started off my MUN experience at the JMUN. At the JMUN is where I found my true potential and calling as a public speaker, hence the JMUN has been vital for the development of my character and the person that I am today. Whether it be solving world issues, enhancing your debate skills or even making friends, JMUN is an excellent platform that provides you an opportunity to kick start your MUN experience. This MUN experience not only leads to academic benefits but boosts your overall confidence. Through this JMUN, I am excited to take this stepping stone with you.

We started as delegates, and now we are serving in the secretariat for the same MUN that started our journey. This makes it feel great honor; however, we understand the responsibilities we have to fill for the betterment of our participants. This is why the director generals, along with the rest of the organizing committee, will do everything in their power. to ensure quality debate, representation and assured learning experiences for all the delegates. The secretariat is completely approachable before and throughout the conference for all the participating delegates.

Regards,
Aagney & Siddharth
