Background Guide
Nidhi Vasishta
(Co-Chair)
Nidhi’s favorite part of an MUN is using the gavel. That, and complex debate,
researching world issues, and drafting resolutions. She hopes to provide new delegates
with a good understanding of MUNs and encourage discussion. As a first-time chair of
WHO, she aims to make JMUN 2023 a memorable experience for everyone. She likes the
intersection between politics and STEM and is currently working on a project developing
a method for sustainable mineral extraction. Aside from academics, you can find her
either watching F1 or go-karting in races around the country. She wishes all the
delegates the best of luck and looks forward to a fun two days in committee!
Riya Iyengar
(Co-Chair)
Riya has played an active role in JMUNs and MUNs for the past 4 years. She believes MUNs
are a great platform for demonstrating leadership qualities, along with the experiential
learning that it provides in solving real world problems. She is eager to be back in the
EB for the WHO committee and looks forward to guiding and encouraging fruitful debate
amongst the delegates. Riya has a keen interest in all things Mathematics, and outside
of academics, she is an avid follower of Tennis and Formula 1.
Atharva Bhagat
(Moderator)
“One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being
governed by
your inferiors” - Plato
Atharva is a seasoned and enthusiastic MUNer who enjoys everything to do with debate.
His love of debate stems from his deep-rooted distaste for politics and bureaucracy,
leading to a fiery determination to progress the world through eventful argument and
resolution. Last year, he was the head of the school’s MUN club, organising an internal
MUN. His academic pursuits align with his future career in medicine, being passionate
about everything relating to the sciences, but is passionate about academics in general.
When he isn’t making (or breaking) international law, he can be found reading, composing
music, or learning a new language (he speaks six).
Ruhaan Jaiswal
(Moderator)
Ruhaan is an extremely passioned and fiery delegate, finding immense joy in the peaceful
(*that was a lie) art of diplomacy, bureaucracy, and public speaking. Starting his MUN
career (or lack thereof) in 8th Grade, Ruhaan has mustered awards such as the
Outstanding delegate with placements in 3 conferences out of 6 attended in the circuit.
In order to spread the contagion that is the love for debate, he was one of the heads of
the Oakridge MUN club that successfully simulated an Internal model UN conference. Other
than debating, Ruhaan likes Video editing, basketball, and videography. He is extremely
excited to see first-time delegates at the WHO committee, and hopefully ignite the same
passion within them!
